Senior RF Engineer

Job Description

The Senior RF Engineer position is responsible for the design, quality, performance and safety of RF, microwave, and millimeter-wave passive magnetic components, including ferrite transmission lines, filters, limiters, phase shifters, circulators, and isolators. Activities include requirements definition, component and system design, simulation and design optimization, electrical and environmental testing, manufacturing process definition for external and internal suppliers, and quality and safety systems management. Participate in research and development projects to inform the team on engineering tradeoffs and manufacturing requirements. Support business development and sales staff with technical information during phone calls or site visits with customers. Provide excellent customer support to both inside and outside customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design of RF circuits in the frequency range from 100 MHz to 100 GHz
  • Development and validation of numerical models and design optimization using Ansys HFSS or other commercial simulation tools
  • Fabricate, assemble, and tune components, including die attach, wire bonding, soldering, patterning, etching, spinning, developing, electroplating, sputtering
  • Develop and implement protocols to test devices including electrical and environmental (thermal, vibration, mechanical shock, humidity, salt atmosphere/spray) testing
  • Carry out and oversee fixturing, calibration, and testing of devices using standard equipment to include vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, communications analyzers, probe stations, amplifiers, detectors, oscilloscopes, and environmental chambers
  • Interface with suppliers in the definition and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes including mask design, lithography, etching, thin and thick film deposition, wire and ribbon bonding, die attachment, soldering and encapsulation
  • Provide timely support to sales and business development functions with technical proposals, data, analyses, specifications, and technical descriptions
  • Design products, specifications and other requirements for manufacturing by applying experience and industry standards with consideration of cost reduction

Desired Experience

  • Experience with wireless communications or radar RF systems design
  • Experience with materials properties and device high frequency electrical testing
  • Working knowledge and understanding of RF device fabrication methods including materials, metals, insulators, die fabrication, die assembly and packaging is required
  • Experience with hands-on fabrication of prototypes and deliverable solutions
  • Experience with the new product development cycle and introduction to market

Minimum Requirements

  • 5 – 10 years experience developing RF circuits, systems, and devices
  • US Citizen or Permanent US Resident (Green Card)
  • MS Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely-related field or BS in related field with extensive industry experience
  • Approximately 5% travel may be required for visits to customer and supplier facilities
 

RF Technician

Job Description

The RF Technician position is responsible for assembly and testing of RF devices and supporting materials and structures needed for research, development and production. The RF Technician will assemble and test devices based on designs and specifications provided by the engineering staff.

  • Execute protocols to test devices including electrical and environmental (thermal, vibration, mechanical shock, humidity, salt atmosphere/spray) testing, prepare test reports

  • Calibrate and maintain test equipment
  • Prepare materials for research, development and or production devices, includes weighing, measuring, mixing, milling, grinding, pressing, sintering, polishing
  • Clean and maintain materials research, device assembly, and laboratory areas to support a safe and productive work environment
  • Participate in inventory control including requesting, maintaining, and documenting
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Experience:

  • RF device fabrication and testing from 100 MHz to 100 GHz
  • Ceramic materials synthesis, characterization, and processing

Requirements:

  • US Citizen or Permanent US Resident (Green Card)
  • Associates degree in engineering or other physical sciences (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial experience in a comparable role or 2 years of comparable work in an academic research setting

 

 

Sales/Applications Engineer

Job Description

The Sales/Application Engineer is responsible for supporting the design and improvement of the new and existing projects. The Sales/Application Engineer will represent Metamagnetics Inc. through daily customer interaction via phone and email as well as trade show support and customer visits.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Represent Metamagnetics at trade shows.
  • Define and document specialized customer product configurations.
  • Prepared and execute special customer product configurations.
  • Generate, review and price commercial customer configurations, and provide written quotes to the customer. Follow up on quotes directly with the customer or sales representative.
  • Travel to customer sites to present proposals, resolve technical issues and assisting in closing orders.
  • Review customer orders. Manage timelines and ship dates.
  • Assist in the preparation of application notes, case studies, technical literature, RFI’s and RFQ’s.
  • Document product and tooling designs.
  • Creates and maintains detailed BOMs for new and existing products.
  • Works to develop tools and fixtures to aid in the manufacturing of the product design.
  • Perform tolerance and fit analysis.
  • Perform analysis for potential design tradeoffs for cost reduction.
  • Perform analysis of vendor capabilities.
  • Participate and present in design and evaluation reviews.
  • Perform analysis of thermal and mechanical performance over specified conditions.

Requirements:

  • BS in Engineering, EE or ME.
  • 2-10 years of related experience in technical sales or engineering with a preference toward RF components.
  • Good sales skills with a strong entrepreneurial drive.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Successful track record accomplishing desired results.

Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for supporting the design and improvement of the new and existing projects through the use of CAD software. The Mechanical Engineer will perform analysis on models to optimize product performance and will perform testing and data analysis for exiting components.

Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Supports the mechanical design of new products and make improvements to existing products in CAD based on requirement specification, cost, manufacturability, and vendor capability with input from the engineering team
  • Create detailed CAD assembly drawings ranging from a few to hundreds of components
  • Create detailed CAD drawings for mechanical and RF components
  • Document product and tooling designs
  • Creates and maintains detailed BOMs for new and existing products
  • Works to develop tools and fixtures to aid in the manufacturing of the product design
  • Perform tolerance and fit analysis
  • Perform analysis for potential design tradeoffs for cost reduction
  • Perform analysis of vendor capabilities
  • Participate and present in design and evaluation reviews
  • Perform analysis of thermal and mechanical performance over specified conditions

Experience with:

  • BSME with 0-3 years of related experience
  • Proficient in the use of SolidWorks, AutoCad and Fusion
  • Experience drafting/designing industrial products and/or equipment
  • Experience with some or all of the following: material science, kinematics, thermal modeling, mounting of components, and fixture design.
  • Experience developing a product incorporating design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Successful track record accomplishing desired results
